The new year will see a change to Mission’s garbage collection. Starting April 4, 2016 waste pickup will be bi-weekly, a change from the regular weekly garbage pickup. The goal of this change is to decrease the amount of recyclables and compostables ending up in the landfill. Though the time frame will be different, the amount of garbage collected will stay the same. Recycling and compost pickup will still be done on a weekly basis. There are options available if your household will have more than two cans of garbage every two weeks. Families with two or more children under the age of 3 or a medical condition that results in more waste can request garbage bag stickers. Though this change does not take effect for a few months, it would be great to see Mission residents making a point of being greener now with their waste amounts.
